Warning Signs You That You Need To Take Your Dog to the Vet

Pet owners know how important their pets are in their life. In fact, they are not ‘pets’, they are family. At times, they need our help and support but unfortunately, they cannot ask for it. It is very important to pay attention to the slightest change in their behaviour so that necessary measures can be taken. Here are some warning signs which you need to look after.

  • Abnormal Bathroom Habits

It might be a sign of illness when you notice that your pet’s bathroom habits have significantly changed. Also, if their faeces look different than usual, it also may be a sign of a health issue. If you notice a change in colour, odour, or regularity of bowel movements, it can be an indicator of inappropriate food, allergies, viruses or organ problems.

  • Coughing

At times, your dog or cat may suffer from kennel cough which doesn’t need any special treatment. It usually goes away within 2 weeks. On the other hand, if it lasts for more than 3 weeks, it should not be considered normal. Kennel Cough is considered to be more serious for puppies, kittens, and breeds with pushed-in faces.

  • Abnormal Restlessness

At times, our pets can indicate that they’re not feeling well by expressing their restlessness. Constant shaking, pacing, or whining can all point to a range of health issues including mange, rabies virus, Cushing’s disease, or even heart problems.

  • Change in Breathing

Almost all pet owners are familiar with how their pet sounds when they breathe. However, in case you notice anything unusual like laboured breathing, fast panting or particularly shallow breaths, it can be an indication of a health issue. The normal resting or sleeping respiratory rate of dogs and cats is less than 30 breaths per minute.

  • Unusual Look in Their Eyes

If you notice anything unusual in your pet’s eyes, it typically warrants medical attention. The signs of an illness can include: Dilated pupils, constricted pupils, or one pupil is dilated and the other one constricted. Other indications include eye discharge or droopy eyes.

  • Excessive Licking

Numerous medical problems may result in licking behaviour in cats and dogs. Pain and itches due to allergies or fleas can be the reasons why your pet is excessively cleaning the same spot.

  • Bald Patches or Tufts of Loose Fur

Another sign that your pet might not be well is hair loss. At times, pet owners think that hair loss is due to fleas or ticks, but if the pet is free from invaders, the problem can be little more complex. One of the most common causes of hair loss could be thyroid disease in dogs which can make them feel very uncomfortable.
